  • Lesley Abercomby (nee Briggs): "I am currently Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Inclusion at Astley Sports College in Greater Manchester and enjoying every minute"
  • Bill Taylor: Still getting soaked (inside and out) as well as getting high (geographically and strictly legal of course). I really enjoy my job as the O Ed Adviser for Worcestershire on a .8 contract where I still find the drive to promote OE with some passion. I particularly like the work I do at a national level. I am 1 of the 2 national trainers that delivers the EVC Trainer-training for LAs on behalf of the DfES and its nice to feel appreciated at that level, and that my experience over all these years can help provide out-of-classroom experiences for young people on that scale. The .8 contract also gives me the time to do my own thing...
Not quite active in the same areas as I once was. A spinal operation a year ago has left me with a limp, so it was just as well that I got interested in expeditioning with horses some years back. That has proved to be my saving grace as I still operate in high mountains as a horse trail guide as per attached picture. However, this also means that I will not be in Kent in July as I will be running horse trail pack horse expeditions in the Canadian Rockies from 8 July to end of August. Young Will will be joining me as one of my wranglers from the end of July (when he finishes a rugby tour in Australia) so I am looking forward to that.
Retirement?I try not to think about it.
  • Val Battersby: I am married with 3 children. They are aged 19, 17 and 12 years. I live in Poole in Dorset. I am teaching P.E part time. I now teach at a school for Physically Handicapped children. Still follow lots of sports but serious knee and achillies tendon injuries have made me much more of a spectator than performer these days. Keen golfer. Have been invited to attend golf County training at the tender age of 44! Life in the 'Old Gal' yet.
  • Godfrey Hills: Godfrey is a techer who has lived in Swanleyfor over 20 years. He is on the management committee of the Citizen's Advice Bureau and a co-ordinator of a local Neighbourhood Watch group and a local Councillor.
  • John Roberts: At this very moment, I am marking 400 GCSE English Literature scripts for AQA. Since coming up to the beautiful and 'wild' county of Northumberland in August 2006, I have been teaching English, covering a maternity leave, at The King Edward VI High School, Morpeth. I have been there (part-time) this year, but will be starting at The Duchess's High School, Alnwick permanently in September. (I have to keep going until I'm 68 - to pay the mortgage off!) I am also coaching cricket at Northumbria University and working part-time for the County Cricket and the England & Wales Cricket Boards. Best wishes to Sylvia and Ivan on their respective retirements - both well deserved.
  • Natalie Percival: Gloucestershire is lovely, I live very close to Cheltenham race course and the pace of life is just so much slower. I am working in a Children Centre, cooking for about fifty under fives. I also teach basic cooking skills to young pregnant mums under sixteen, and I have almost finished my city and guilds qualification on preparing to teach in a life long learning sector. So as you can see, I am still keeping busy. Thamesview seems a life time ago. . My daughter has stayed in Kent working for Kent Police. My son Josh, is almost at the end of a two year course in Electronic Engerneering, and has a few interviews lined up for work, but if all else fails has a place at Birmingham University. I am still with Sandy, who is an outdoor Instructor for Pates grammar school, and its almost been five years, so I guess that's the biggest surprise of all!
